Johan Runius
Johan Runius (born June 1, 1679 in Larv , Vara municipality , † June 1, 1713 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish poet of the Baroque .
Life
The pastor's son Runius first attended grammar school in Gothenburg , which he graduated in 1699. Here he wrote a tribute to the city of Gothenburg in verse under the title Nimrods Skäckta, Til Göthborgs Beröm . From 1700 he studied in Uppsala . However, due to a lack of financial resources, he was unable to finish his studies. From 1703 he worked as a tutor and private secretary. From 1707 to 1710 he lived in Reval , where he worked as secretary to the governor general Nils Stromberg. Runius spent his last years in Stockholm .
Above all, Runius is the author of occasional poems which he wrote for members of the wealthy middle class. For his poems he used less the usual ways than popular melodies of French dance styles such as minuet , polonaise and gavotte .
He was buried in the cemetery of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Stockholm.
