Johann Friedrich Albers (born October 16, 1890 in Jever ; † April 19, 1964 there ) was a German politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

Albers was the son of the Frisian smallholder and worker Karl Albers and his wife Margaretha geb. Hellmerichs. After attending elementary school, Albers completed an apprenticeship in blacksmithing , then continued his education at a technical college and later passed the examination as a master blacksmith. From 1913 he worked as a self-employed master blacksmith in Jever and ran an agricultural subsidiary. In addition, he was already working in leading offices of the craftsmen at this time. From 1923 on he was a member of the plenary assembly of the Oldenburg Chamber of Crafts . In 1933 he was removed from office and arrested.

After the end of the war he became master blacksmith and master craftsman in the district and after his re-entry from 1948 to 1951 member of the board and finally honorary master of the Chamber of Crafts in Oldenburg.

Politics and public offices

Initially, Albers was a member of the Free People's Party . In 1919 he became a member of the German Democratic Party until it was banned. During the time of National Socialism , as a staunch democrat , he was exposed to a variety of harassment, which led to his having to resign all party and honorary offices in 1933. From 1945 he was again a member of the German Democratic Party and an employee of Theodor Tantzen . As his close confidante, Albers was a member of the Appointed Oldenburg State Parliament from January 30, 1946 and served as its President from April 10, 1946. He was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1946 to 1959. From June 11, 1947 to June 9, 1948, he served as a minister without portfolio in the cabinet of the government of Lower Saxony, led by Prime Minister Hinrich Wilhelm Kopf . In 1948, like other DDP politicians, he joined the FDP and in the same year founded the FDP local association Minsen together with Rudolf Garlichs . He resigned from the Lower Saxony coalition government - like the other Free Democrats - because they could not agree on a land reform and settlement law. As a representative of the Lower Saxony state parliament, Albers took part in the first Federal Assembly on September 12, 1949 , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President . 1951/52 Albers was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament. Also in 1954, when Heuss was re-elected, he was a member of the Federal Assembly.

From December 20, 1945, Albers was also District Administrator of the Friesland district and held this office until his death. From 1952 to 1961 he was still mayor of Jever.
