Johann Andreas Genßler

Johann Andreas Genßler (born May 12, 1748 in Hildburghausen ; † May 19, 1831 ibid) was a German Protestant theologian and historian .

Life

Johann Andreas Genßler, the son of a councilor and rope maker, attended schools in his hometown and a high school in Coburg . He then studied theology at the University of Jena . In 1768 he returned to Hildburghausen, where he stayed until his death on May 19, 1831 and held several offices. From 1772 he was private tutor , 1777 teacher of the Hereditary Prince Friedrich von Sachsen-Hildburghausen , from 1790 court preacher , from 1797 consistorial councilor and chief court preacher . Genßler became a secret councilor in 1800, general superintendent in 1819.

Since 1818 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . From 1816 to 1818, as a master of the chair , he headed the Hildburghausen Masonic Lodge "Karl zum Rautenkranz". The University of Würzburg and the University of Jena awarded him honorary doctorates .
