Johann Baptist Wiesbaur SJ (born June 15, 1836 in Wallnstorf near Gunskirchen , Upper Austria ; † November 8, 1906 at Leschna Castle , Moravia ) was an Austrian clergyman, botanist and mineralogist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is “ Wiesb. ".

Live and act

Wiesbaur was initially a Jesuit priest in Linz . Later he taught at the college in Kalksburg and at various religious institutions in Bohemia. From 1898 he was a high school professor in Duppau . Most recently, Wiesbaur managed the natural science collections of Count von Seilern and Aspang at Leschna Castle as custodian .

Wiesbaur described u. a. the flora and fauna of the Leitha conglomerate and examined fossil plants in the marine tertiary conglomerate in Kalksburg . He also dealt with mineralogy and was a correspondent for the Geological Reichsanstalt . In Duppau he recognized that the Flurbühl above the city is the magma slot of a tertiary super volcano .
