Johann Barter

Johann Barter (also: Barterus ; * 1558 in Oldenburg ; † May 3, 1617 in Helmstedt ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of the rentier of the same name of the Delmenhorst family in Friesland attended the universities of Wittenberg and Rostock . He then went to the University of Helmstedt , held private lectures and was there in 1595 a full professor of the Institutiones Iustiniani . In 1596 he received his doctorate and became professor of the Pandects . In 1610 he was Vice Rector of the Helmstedt Alma Mater.

He was buried in Helmstedt on May 8th.

Barter was married to Anna, the widow of M. Hartwig Schmiedenstedt, orator and professor in Helmstedt, daughter of Wittenberg councilor and trader Hans Trips. No children appear to have resulted from the marriage.
