Johann Bartholome Caflisch

Johann Bartholome Caflisch (born January 20, 1817 in Chur , † August 12, 1899 in Trin ) was a Swiss politician .

As the son of a lieutenant colonel in Sardinian and French service, Caflisch attended grammar school in Chur, studied law in Tübingen, Munich and Pavia and was then a lawyer in Chur.

Between 1847 and 1883 he initially sat for the Trin district, then for Chur in the Grisons Grand Council and in 1874 was the state president. He was strongly committed to the economic and political renewal of Graubünden and was a leading member of the Reform Association that initiated the cantonal constitutional revision of 1854. In the 1860s he campaigned for a reform of the Small Council and the expansion of the Graubünden people's rights. Between 1853 and 1872 he sat on the Council of States and the National Council several times . As a supporter of the Federal Constitution of 1848, he also advocated the revisions of 1872 and 1874. He also campaigned for the unification of Swiss law.
