Johann Cadau , also Jean Cadau (born July 14, 1871 in Grünstadt , Palatinate , Kingdom of Bavaria; † December 16, 1912 in Naples , Italy) was a railway official, central politician and from 1907 to 1912 a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies in Munich.

Life

Johann Cadau, who often Frenchized his first name as "Jean" in line with contemporary fashion, was born in the Palatinate town of Grünstadt. He was a railroad worker and most recently held the post of rail expeditor (head of smaller stations) at the Royal Railway Directorate in Munich, at the station "Neu-Pasing II", a residential district of Pasing .

As a Catholic, Cadau was politically active in the Center Party. There they wanted - in order to regain lost ground - to bring workers into parliamentary positions. One of them was Johann Cadau. Despite his rather modest professional position, he became a member of the Bavarian State Parliament; Elected as Zentrumsmann from 1907 to 1911 in the Munich-Land constituency, then re-elected for the Aichach constituency . At the same time he acted locally politically as the chairman of the council of municipal representatives of the city of Pasing, which corresponded to a mayor. Cadau was particularly concerned about social and labor issues, he was a member of various parliamentary committees. From 1907 to 1912 he held the office of deputy chairman of the “Committee for the Consultation of Applications for Labor Relations”. From the summer of 1909, the Palatine center man Franz Bettinger , who was also very active in the working class, officiated as Archbishop of Munich and Freising , which gave Cadau sustained support.

Johann Cadau died while on vacation in Naples, Italy; The cause of death was a sudden gastric bleeding . The Grünstadter Zeitung in his hometown reports about it in its issue No. 297 of December 17, 1912. There is also an obituary notice posted by the local family. Cadau's parliamentary seat and the office of deputy chairman of the workers' committee was taken over by the Catholic master tanner Ferdinand Müller from Aichach (1859–1944).

As a railway official, Johann Cadau edited the “Railway Workers Calendar” published in Munich for years and published by the local publishing company for railway customers. In the official report on the 57th German Catholic Convention , from August 21 to 25, 1910, in Augsburg , Johann Cadau is entered as "Royal Railway Administrator and Member of the State Parliament from Pasing" in the list of registered event participants (Festschrift, page 700).
