Johann Caspar Albrecht (* 1639 in Waldshut ; † December 17, 1711 in Luttingen ) was pastor in Luttingen and commander of the Hauensteiner Landfahn .

Life

Because of the missing entries in Waldshut's baptismal register for the years 1637 to 1640, his exact date of birth is unknown. He studied at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau , where it appears in the registers on November 27, 1657. From 1672 to 1674 he was chaplain at the Heiligkreuzkaplanei in Waldshut, later pastor in Luttingen. At the beginning of the Palatinate War of Succession in 1688, Albrecht stepped into the field and promised to be back by the beginning of the winter quarters and in the meantime to have a vicar take care of the pastoral care . From a complaint from January 1694 it can be seen that Albrecht had neither returned after more than five years nor had he taken care of the priesthood representation. Since the pastor's Sigrist was also in the field, the Sigrist's wife had to do the pastoral care in the meantime. All requests and complaints of the parishioners went unheard, since around May 1694 both the elector of Bavaria and two electoral generals insisted that Albrecht be present in the field. When Albrecht returned is not clear from the sources, possibly only after the Peace of Rijswijk in 1697. After only a few years, Albrecht took to the field again in the War of Spanish Succession that began in 1701 as commander of the Hauensteiner Landfahnens . This Landsturm from the county of Hauenstein had a strength of about 900 to 1200 men during the War of the Spanish Succession. Again there were protests that his military activities were incompatible with his spiritual office, which the state in Vienna and Innsbruck responded with praise and recognition of Albrecht. For example, the imperial governor in Vienna, Count Palatine Karl Philipp, wrote in a document dated July 17, 1709 that Pastor Albrecht should continue his praiseworthy command of the country flag because the responsible generals demanded that he remain and the people had confidence in him. Emperor Joseph I awarded Albrecht the great gold medal of honor with a chain of grace in 1710.

epitaph

Pastor Albrecht's epitaph preserved in Luttingen is decorated with war tools, drums, flags, cannon balls and halberds . The coat of arms on the tomb with a striding lion below and three stars above is the family coat of arms of the Albrecht family, the crowning of the coat of arms with a chalice symbolizes his priesthood.
