Johann Chapoutot

Johann Chapoutot (born July 30, 1978 in Martigues ) is a French historian with a focus on National Socialism and German contemporary history .

Life

Chapoutot studied history , German and law at the École Normale Supérieure Paris and the TU Berlin . In 2006 he did his doctorate at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the TU Berlin. Between 2008 and 2014 worked as a lecturer at the University of Grenoble II . Since June 2016 he has been a professor at the Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) .

In his research, Chapoutot deals, among other things, with the permeability between National Socialist ideology and free-market corporate management , which he explains in the essay Libres d'obéir (Free to Obey) published in 2020 , and supplements existing explanatory approaches such as the banality of evil at the time .

Chapoutot is a member of the Institut Universitaire de France .
