Johann Christian Hallmann
Johann Christian Hallmann (* around 1640 in Silesia ; † around 1716? In Vienna ) was a German playwright of the Baroque period .
Life
Hallmann attended the Maria Magdalenen High School in Breslau from 1647 to 1661 , from which many Silesian poets emerged . Here he already produced his first school drama. In 1662 he enrolled in Jena , where he studied law , especially constitutional law, until 1665 . He then returned to Breslau as a trainee in court, where he quickly gained a reputation as a playwright and occasional poet. It has been proven that his almost operatic dramas were performed often, especially on festive occasions. No less than 18 dramatic works by his hand are proven. Hallmann's last years are shrouded in darkness. After his conversion to Catholicism, he is said to have died in great poverty in Vienna.
