Johann Christian Hofmann

Johann Christian Hofmann (born February 11, 1739 in Salzungen , † February 16, 1792 in Coburg ) was a German civil servant.

Life

Johann Christian Hofmann was born in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . His father was an official adjunct at the time and later became a government councilor and then a private councilor in Coburg.

He received his first public lessons at the school in Salzungen and then attended the Schleusingen grammar school . From there he initially studied at the University of Jena and then at the University of Halle .

In 1763 he came to Coburg with his father and was employed as a secretary and history teacher for Hereditary Prince Karl and his sister. In 1766 he became an archivist at the Kommerzkollegium (authority appointed by the government, which assists the government as an expert, advisory body in its economic policy measures and at the same time represents the interests of the merchants and manufacturers) and in 1770 he was a real chamber councilor , he also received for some Time the job of the general administrator of the lottery . Thereupon he became court counselor and secret trainee lawyer and then consistorial president and protosolarch of the Casimirianum . In 1783 he was appointed Real Privy Councilor .

Johann Christian Hofmann was married to Jeanette Christiane Karoline, b. Baroness von Stein. His youngest son was the lawyer Albrecht Anton Adolph Hofmann .

Memberships

Johann Christian Hofmann founded the Lorenzo Order in Coburg on August 10, 1769 and could be considered the founder of this order. The Order of Meekness and Tolerance carried a triangular Lorenzo box as a symbol. Johann Christian Hofmann was in possession of such a snuffbox with the serial number XXVIII.
