Johann Christian Ludwig Klauer
Johann Christian Ludwig Klauer (born September 1, 1782 in Weimar , † lost after 1813) was a German sculptor .
He was the son of the Weimar court sculptor Martin Gottlieb Klauer , whose workshop he continued for some time after his death in 1801. In 1805 he took off the death mask of the poet Friedrich Schiller . After participating in the wars of freedom , he lived in Weimar for a short time and then disappeared. Just like his father, he portrayed poets such as Christoph Martin Wieland , who in turn is the only documented portrait bust of this poet from his hand, which he had taken off after a live mask, but also the Duchess Anna Amalia . Overall, however, his importance as a sculptor of the Weimar Classicism does not come close to that of his father. He always moved in its artistic shadow. He was also unable to successfully continue his father's toreutics workshop.
