Johann Christian Schulz

Johann Christian Schulz (born March 7, 1962 in Karlsruhe ) is a German composer and music producer.

Life

Schulz took private lessons in classical guitar with Marc Seiffge , piano with Rolf Knieper, conducting with Manfred Hübner and composition with Robert Wittinger .

Schulz studied ethnomusicology and musicology at the Universities of Freiburg and Basel (among others with Hans Oesch , Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht and Hans Peter Haller ) and composition with Milko Kelemen at the State University of Music in Stuttgart .

From 1984 he pursued a parallel career as sound engineer and producer for many international labels and artists.

His catalog raisonné contains chamber music, symphonic and vocal works as well as works for electronic media. Cooperation with the experimental studio of the SWR , the ZKM Karlsruhe and with various ensembles, orchestras and theaters (e.g. Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Mannheim, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , Staatstheater Mainz , Karlsruher Sport Club (KSC), Profectio Initiative Freiburg , Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain , Ensemble SurPlus , The 12 Pianists , Baynov Piano Ensemble ) and soloists such as Nebojša Jovan Živković , Nikolaus Friedrich , Beverly Ellis , Olaf Tzschoppe , Zsigmond Szathmáry .

From 1984 to 1990 he headed the audiophile label Cadenza Records.

Since 2012 he has been the first chairman of the Freiburg composers interest group. Schulz is a member of the New Music Baden-Württemberg Network .
