Johann Christoph Balser

Johann Christoph Balser (born January 31, 1710 in Gießen ; † June 14, 1750 there ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of the Giessen city secretary Johann Balthasar Balser and his wife Anne Christine, the daughter of the Giessen mayor Johann Christoph Verdries, had attended the school and the pedagogy in his hometown. In 1725 he began studying law at the University of Giessen . Supported primarily by his uncle Johann Melchior Verdries (1679–1735), he obtained his licentiate in 1736 and went on a scholarly trip to Saxony, where he frequented the University of Halle , the University of Leipzig and the University of Jena . Traveling via the University of Göttingen , he returned to Giessen in 1737, where he worked as a private lecturer.

In 1742 he became associate professor of law and assessor at the law school. In 1744 he became a full professor at the law school. In 1747 he received his doctorate in law.

Balser died of a rampant disease at a young age.
