Johann Christoph Kühnau
Johann Christoph Kühnau (born February 10, 1735 in Volkstedt , † October 13, 1805 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant church musician and composer .
Life
Kühnau, son of a farmer, came to a town musician in Aschersleben at a young age to learn music. From 1753 he attended the country school teacher seminar in the Berge monastery and in 1763 he came to Berlin, where he became a teacher at the secondary school. He switched to the Trinity School in 1783 and finally received the office of cantor at the Trinity Church in 1788 . There he formed a choir with which he often performed larger works and thus had a significant impact on the public musical life of Berlin.
Kühnau composed several oratorios and many cantatas.
The theologian and teacher Johann Christian Friedrich Kühnau was his son.
