Johann Christoph Kosch (master builder, 1703)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Christoph Kosch (Czech. Jan Kryštof Kosch ) (* 1703 in Roschwitz , † 1784 in Klösterle an der Eger ) was a German-Bohemian Baroque builder.

Like his eponymous cousin Johann Christoph Kosch and his relative Johann Wenzel Kosch, he came from a family of builders. His work was mainly concentrated in the region around Klášterec nad Ohří (Klösterle).

He was in the service of the Counts of Thun-Hohenstein in Klösterle and is the least significant of the three Kosch master builders in northern Bohemia . From 1731 to 1733 he was involved in the reconstruction of the parish church of St. Wenceslas in Rosawitz (Děčín-Rozbělesy) and the castle in Eulau ( Jilové ). In 1735 he worked at the Felixburg Castle (Zámek Felixburk) in Roschwitz (Rašovice, now part of Klášterec nad Ohří). From his marriage to Judith Schwander in 1748 he lived in Klösterle (Klášterec nad Ohří) until his death in 1784. In the years 1766–1769 he was the builder of the Church of St. Jakobus in Redenitz ( Radnice ) in Okres Karlovy Vary , which belonged to the former Count of Thun's lordship of Klösterle. The village no longer exists and the church was demolished in 1957. He also built a chapel in his native Roschwitz in the years 1776–1784.
