Johann Chrysanth Bollrath (* 26. June 1697 in Münstereifel , † 8. September 1776 in Aachen ) was a German painter of the Baroque .

Life

Bollenrath was the sixth of ten children of Johann Bollerath and Maria Katharina Kohlhaas from Münstereifel. He came to Aachen at a young age, where he worked on the painting of St. Peter in 1718/1719 and at times earned his living as a wine merchant and innkeeper. Later Bollenrath mostly worked for Johann Joseph Couven during his redesign work for the Aachen City Hall and created several ceiling and wall paintings . The murals of the fantasy portrait of Charlemagne as patron of the foreman court from 1730, Susanna and the two old men , victory of virtue over vice and peace and justice have been preserved in the foremen's court . In the latter picture there is Bollenrath's self-portrait painted on the easel by a busty muse of art.

For the pavilion to the left of the gate of the former Fey house, which no longer exists , Bollenrath made the murals of the battles of Alexander around 1740, which are also no longer preserved. In contrast, the ceiling painting Aesculapius , the god of medicine, and the mural Zeus and Ganymed above the fireplace in the Green Hall have been preserved in the Couven Museum in Aachen in the Adler Pharmacy .

Ceiling painting in the Nörvenich castle chapel from 1729

In addition, he made a ceiling painting for the Nörvenich Castle Chapel , which, according to the administration of Nörvenich Castle , is dedicated to the veneration of St. Mary. There are also three paintings for the Bartholomäuskirche in Berlin . These are located in the chancel there and show the crucified Jesus and the disciples Stephanus and Bartholomäus (Nathanael). They were made for the Mariengemeinde between 1737 and 1742, as was another oil painting depicting the Descent from the Cross.

Bollenrath drew his works with JC Bollenrath and the note Pinxit (painted) and the year of creation.

Bollenrath was married to Maria Cäcilia Dauzenberg.
