Johann Daniel Manchot was born in Friedberg and received his preliminary education for the university at the Augustinian school there . Just as he was about to pass his entrance exam, he suffered a peculiar eye disease that lasted almost three years, so that he could not begin his studies at the University of Giessen until 1826 . In addition to theology, he also took classical and philosophical subjects. The writings of Friedrich Schleiermacher exerted the greatest influence on his theological convictions . During his studies he became a member of the old Gießen fraternity Germania in the winter semester of 1826/27 . In 1837 he was the second parish in Nidda appointed

Manchot had been with Carolina Wilhelmine, born on July 2, 1837. Dickorée married and they had four children together: Carl Hermann Manchot (1839–1909, pastor), Daniel (* 1841), Wilhelm Manchot (1844–1912, architect), Charlotte (* 1848).

The Manchot family comes from Metz in Lorraine . An ancestor - Pierre Mangeot - emigrated to Frankfurt / Main because of the renewed persecution of Protestants. The spelling of the name changed probably because of the incorrect pronunciation of the Germans about Mangot in Manchot.
