Johann Duerst

Johann Ulrich Duerst also J. Ulrich Duerst (born October 4, 1876 in Cologne ; † October 7, 1950 in Ins , Switzerland) was a German agricultural scientist and zoologist who worked for almost 40 years as a professor at the University of Bern's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine .

Life

He studied at the Königl. Prussian Agricultural Academy Poppelsdorf b. Bonn as well as at the University and the Polytechnic Zurich Agriculture and Zoology. In 1895 he became a member of the later Corps Agraria Bonn. In 1898 he completed his studies in Zurich as a certified agriculture teacher. This was followed by a doctorate in 1899. phil. at the University of Zurich . In 1901 he became a private lecturer at the Zurich Polytechnic. From 1908 he was associate professor and from 1911 to 1947 full professor at the veterinary medicine faculty of the University of Bern. Here he taught the subjects of animal husbandry, animal hygiene, assessment theory and forensic veterinary medicine. About 150 publications on general and special animal breeding and the tribal history of farm animals were published.
