Johann Emanuel Brik

Johann Emanuel Brik (born May 7, 1842 in Heřmanův Městec , Bohemia; † January 7, 1925 in Eferding , Upper Austria) was an Austrian bridge construction technician and university lecturer .

Life

Johann Emanuel Brik studied at the Technical University in Vienna. From 1866 to 1868 he was also an assistant for water and road construction there. In the years 1868 to 1870 he designed bridges for the Pustertalbahn and the St. Peter in Carniola - Fiume railway line of the southern railway. In the years 1870 to 1873 he planned bridges for the Northwest Railway between Jungbunzlau and Kolin and the Znojmo Railway Bridge , as well as on the Kolín – Děčín railway line (Elbe Valley Railway).

In 1873 he became a full professor of bridge construction and structural mechanics at the Brno University of Technology . In the years 1876/1877 and 1885/1886 he was also rector of the university.

Other structures were the Schwarzawa Bridge near Brno . But he also planned other iron structures, such as for a Budapest train station or the stage roof of the Brno City Theater .

In 1893 he became a professor for bridge construction at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1897/1898 he was also the rector of the university. From 1903 to 1905 he was dean of the civil engineering school.

He retired in 1913.
