Johann Erhardt (politician)

Johann Erhardt (born March 3, 1926 in Raiding ; † March 2019 ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. Erhardt is married and was a member of the Burgenland Landtag from 1956 to 1977 and second President of the Landtag from 1964 to 1977.

education and profession

Erhardt was born as the son of the farmer Anton Erhardt from Rading and attended five classes at the elementary school in Raiding. He then completed three classes at the secondary school in Stoob and then two classes at the commercial school in Eisenstadt . After completing his training, Erhardt worked between September 1942 and July 1943 as a commercial clerk in the grocery wholesaler and in the summer of 1943 did one month in the Reich Labor Service . He was then drafted into the Wehrmacht , where he was deployed in the Air Force and was taken prisoner of war by the Americans, from which he was only released in January 1946. After his return from captivity, he worked in his parents' farm, in 1978 he was appointed economics councilor, and in 1993 he was appointed professor. Erhardt was active as a book author and published the Burgenland senior calendar from 1989.

Politics and functions

Erhardt took over the position of Dean's Leader in 1948 and was diocesan leader of the Catholic rural youth in Burgenland between 1949 and 1952. Afterwards he was diocesan leader of the Catholic men's movement from 1954 to 1956 . He was also involved in the ÖVP and worked between 1956 and 1975 as district party chairman of the ÖVP- Oberpullendorf , and from November 1, 1960 to December 31, 1968, he was ÖVP state party secretary. Erhardt represented the ÖVP between June 11, 1956 and October 27, 1977 in the Burgenland Landtag, where he was 3rd President of the Landtag from August 8, 1961 to April 17, 1964. From April 17, 1964, until he left the state parliament, he was second president of the state parliament.

In addition to his mandate, Erhardt also served as President of the Burgenland Civil Protection Association from 1960 to 1966 and was Councilor of the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture from 1963 to 1968 . After leaving the state parliament, he acted as regional chairman of the Burgenland Seniors 'Union from 1977 to 1993 and was also the Federal Deputy Chairman of the Seniors' Union from 1987 to 1989. Furthermore, he was deputy chairman from 1968 to 1991 and then until 1996 chairman of the Franz Liszt Association Raiding.
