Johann Franz Ahn (born December 15, 1796 in Aachen , † August 21, 1865 in Soest ) was a teacher .

After working as a businessman, he began studying mathematics and modern languages. After brief management as a cadastral geometer (1822) and as a teacher of modern languages ​​at the Gymnasium in Aachen (1824-26), he headed a realistic private institution he founded for a long time and, after its dissolution, joined the secondary school in Neuss in 1843 a. In 1863 he was retired.

Ahn owed his widespread reputation to his literary work and especially to his "Practical Course for Quick and Easy Learning of the French Language " (1st course, Cologne 1834, 206th ed. 1883; 2nd course, das. 1840, 47th ed. 1881). The method followed by Ahn and named after him was not originally invented by him, rather it is a further training of the method used by the Rector Seidenstücker († 1817 zu Soest) in his elementary books to learn the French, Latin and Greek languages, according to which of Examples and only afterwards the rule is given.
