Johann Friedrich Leberecht Reinhold (born September 15, 1744 in Neustadt an der Orla , † June 1, 1807 in Gera ) was a German portrait painter who worked in Gera .

Live and act

Reinhold learned the painting trade from Johann Gottfried Krippendorf (1782–1850) in Zeitz .

In 1773 he was mentioned as a citizen and painter in Gera. Here he married Johanna Ehrhardt, daughter of the Schleiz court sculptor Philipp Conrad Ehrhardt , in 1773 . After the fire in Gera in 1780 he lived in Schleiz , where he married Henriette Felder, daughter of the Russian court gardener Gottfried Ehrhardt Felder, in 1783. In 1782/1783 he lived in Neustadt an der Orla, then again in Gera. From 1783 he delivered paintings to the court of Count Heinrich XXX. von Reuss-Gera from the House of Reuss (1727–1802) and to other ruling houses.

He mainly created portraits and genre scenes in watercolor , gouache and pastel colors . He never signed his works.

Reinhold, Jean Baptiste Audebert and Jean-Baptiste Meunier (1786–1858) were the illustrators who worked for Guillaume Antoine Olivier in his atlases on entomology, ou, Histoire naturelle des insectes avec leurs caractères génériques et specifiques, leur description, leur synonymie, et leur enluminée contributed.

Reinhold was the founder of the Reinhold family of painters . His sons Friedrich Philipp (1779–1840), Heinrich (1788–1825) and Gustav (1798–1840) became painters and graphic artists.
