Life

Johann Friedrich Preschel came from a wealthy German family. He trained as a businessman in Krakow.

Among other things, he traded in linen, tobacco leaves, hides and woods. His activities extended to Gdansk and Amsterdam . In 1769 he and three business partners founded the first Polish-Lithuanian tannery in Busk . This was very successful.

In 1775, under his leadership, an Evangelical Lutheran congregation was founded in Lemberg . Not until 1778 was it possible to get a pastor for the community who was ready to settle in Lemberg ( Ephraim Gottlob Hoffmann ). Preschel headed the parish council until 1803 and wrote the parish regulations. The first services took place in a garden house on his property. He significantly supported the construction of the Protestant church and the rectory.

Emperor Joseph II visited his tannery in Busk twice, on a third visit he stayed in the Preschels house in Lemberg.
