Johann Friedrich Steffenhagen

Johann Friedrich Steffen Hagen , Latvian Johans Fridrihs Štefenhāgens , (* 4. March 1744 on complaints , † January 29 . Jul / 10. February  1812 greg. In Mitau ) was a Baltic German printer. The printing company Johann Friedrich Steffenhagen und Sohn goes back to him .

Life

He was a barber and surgeon by profession. From 1762 Steffenhagen lived in Mitau . After a successful bloodletting, the Duke wanted to finance his training as a medical doctor, but he turned to printing. In 1769 he married Anna Maria Liedtke, the widow of the royal court book printer Christian Liedtke from Kurland . Steffenhagen received the printing house as a dowry and became the printer of the Duke of Courland and Semgallia with all the privileges of his predecessor.

In 1781 he received a diploma from the Königsberger Buchdrucker-Gesellschaft. From 1796 to 1812 Steffenhagen was a typographer for the government of the Courland Governorate .
