Johann Friedrich Wolff
Johann Friedrich Wolff (* 1778 in Schweinfurt ; † March 13, 1806 ibid) was a German doctor , botanist and entomologist . He was the son of the botanist and doctor Johann Philipp Wolff .
Live and act
He wrote Commentatio de Lemna. Altdorfii et Norimbergae (1801) on Lemna , Icones Cimicum descriptionibus illustratae . Erlangen 1800–1811, an illustrated treatise on bedbugs with copperplate engravings by Jacob Sturm , as well as some specialist articles. Wolff is the author of various genera and species of Schnabelkerfe . Its botanical author abbreviation is " JFWolff ".
Honors
The genus of the dwarf duckweed bears the name Wolffia Horkel in his honor . Also the plant genera Wolffiella Hegelm. , Wolffiopsis (Hegelm.) Hartog & Plas and Pseudowolffia Hartog & Plas , all from the family of Lemna (Lemnaceae) have been named after him.
