Johann Georg Gobelius

Johann Georg Gobelius (* 1562 in Bruttig-Fankel ; † after 1615 in Mainz ) was a German physician , rector and personal physician to the elector .

Life

Johann Gobelius came from a wealthy landowner family from Bruttig on the Moselle , whose members were citizens of the city of Trier . After completing his school education, he enrolled at the University of Mainz in 1581 to study medicine. After his doctorate, the exact year is not known, he was appointed rector of the University of Mainz in 1602 and in 1615 Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria appointed him his personal physician.

For June 5, 1615, the Mainz church index recorded a wedding between Dr. med. Johann Georg Gobelius, where Georg was changed by hand to Gregor, and a Danielis Weickart.

The Gobelius family of landowners included Matthias Göbel (* 1580), Christian Göbel (* 1582), Pankratius Göbel (* 1594) and Bantus Göbel (* 1594), all of whom had also studied in Mainz, as well as Cornelius Gobelius (1570–1611) and Martin Gobelius (1535-1598).
