Cornelius Gobelius
Cornelius Gobelius (born November 7, 1570 in Bruttig ; † June 5 or June 7, 1611 in Heiligenstadt ) was a German auxiliary bishop .
life and career
Cornelius Gobelius was a pupil of the German college in Rome from 1589 to 1596 , where he also received his doctorate in theology and was ordained priest in 1596 . He was particularly recommended by Pope Clement VIII to the Archbishop of Mainz, Wolfgang von Dalberg . This gave him the best reception in Mainz in 1596 . He soon received a canonry at the Peter Pen . Archbishop Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg appointed him sealer and spiritual councilor and provost of the BMV church in Erfurt in 1606 . Cornelius Gobelius was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Thuringia and Titular Bishop of Ascalon on December 14, 1609 in Erfurt; Archbishop Johann Schweikard von Kronberg donated him to his episcopal ordination on September 20, 1610. In 1611 he donated the sacrament of ordination and confirmation in Fulda .
He died of the plague at the age of 40 . His body rests in the collegiate church ad St. Martinum in Heiligenstadt . He bequeathed his library to the Jesuits in Erfurt.
