biography
The son of a notary and district court clerk graduated from the college in Solothurn , then studied law at the academy in Bern and at the University of Vienna . Aubry worked for several years as a private teacher in Warsaw , from 1826 as a lawyer . He was considered a leading figure in the liberal movement in the canton of Bern and was a member of the Constitutional Council in 1831 . In the same year he was elected to the Grand Council , of which he was a member until 1853. From 1832 to 1839 he was a judge at the Bern Court of Appeal.
After Councilor Xavier Stockmar was removed from office in 1839, the Grand Council elected Aubry as his successor. In 1846 he resigned, but supported the new radical liberal government under Karl Neuhaus . Disappointed with the radicals, Aubry joined the Catholic Conservative camp in 1850. On their side he ran in the National Council elections in 1851 and was elected in the constituency of Jura . Three years later he clearly missed the re-election, three other candidacies were unsuccessful. Aubry founded the Franches-Montagnes district savings bank in 1856 , and the orphanage in Saignelégier ten years later.
