Johann Georg Gottlieb Lehmann

Johann Georg Gottlieb Lehmann (* 1745 or 1746 in Berlin ; † April 6, 1816 there ) was a German singer , organist and composer .

Life

Lehmann was the son of the organist Johann Peter Lehmann. First he worked as a singer in the service of Prince Heinrich of Prussia and in 1774 still held the title of chamber virtuoso. As early as 1773 he was appointed organist of the Nikolaikirche in Berlin. Associated with this office was that of the cantor at the Berlinisches Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster , which Lehmann was the last to hold. In 1779 he became the first music director at St. Nikolai and St. Petri and supervisor of the Berlin school choirs.

In 1791 Lehmann became a member of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin , so he was one of its first members and until Otto Grell joined its best solo tenor. Fasch himself composed several works for him.

His daughter and student Caroline married Muzio Clementi in 1804 .

Services

Lehmann earned the merit of performing important church music works in Berlin, such as the 16-part mass by Carl Friedrich Fasch , works by Georg Friedrich Händel , Carl Heinrich Graun and others.
