Johann Georg Metzger

Johann Georg Metzger , also Johann Georg Mezger (born August 15, 1746 in Philippsburg , † June 14, 1793 in Munich ) was a German composer and flautist .

Life

Georg Metzger was as an orphan in the seminary Musicum of the Jesuit in Mannheim taken, where he received his first music lessons and developed his talent for playing the flute. Later he taught at the behest of Elector Karl Theodor Johann Baptist Wendling .

From 1760 Metzger was assistant and from 1765 he was court musician in the Mannheim court orchestra. After the court moved in 1778, he worked in the Munich court orchestra .

Metzger composed concerts and chamber music. He was married and had four children in total.

He was the father of Friedrich Metzger and Karl Theodor Metzger , who were also flautists in the Munich court orchestra.
