Johann Georg Pertsch
Johann Georg Pertsch (born March 10, 1694 in Wunsiedel ; † August 19, 1754 in Helmstedt ) was a German lawyer and professor at the University of Helmstedt .
Live and act
Johann Georg Pertsch, the son of a superintendent, studied law and philosophy in Halle from 1713 . His academic teachers included natural law experts Christian Thomasius and Christian Wolff . After receiving his doctorate (1716), Pertsch initially took up practical work as a government lawyer in Gera and from 1719 in Bayreuth.
In 1728 he began his university teaching career at the University of Jena, where he taught canon law . Since he did not receive a chair in Jena, but only an extraordinary professorship, he left the university in 1732 (?) And went to Hildesheim as the first in-house counsel . Pertsch successfully represented the city in numerous court cases.
In 1738 he became assessor at the court in Wolfenbüttel and in 1743 he was offered a full professorship in law at the University of Helmstedt . He taught first canon law and then Roman private law .
In contemporary professional circles, Pertsch was particularly valued for his research on canon law. His work “An attempt at a church history”, published in 1739, deserves special mention. With his faculty colleague Johann Konrad Sigismund Topp , Pertsch was very divided, personally and professionally. The academic dispute is documented in numerous mutual letters of complaint, which are in the Lower Saxony State Archives in Wolfenbüttel.
