Johann Georg Tanner

Johann Georg Tanner (* 10. April 1828 in Herisau ; † 10. February 1897 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Herisau) was a Swiss businessman , mayor , member of the Small Council , Cantonal and National Council of the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Georg Tanner was a son of Laurenz Tanner, chemist and grocer in poor circumstances, and Anna Barbara Lenggenhager. In 1853 he married Anna Katharina Signer, daughter of Johann Jakob Signer, owner of the finish . From 1843 to 1846 he completed a commercial apprenticeship in Schaffhausen . Tanner took over his father's business in 1849. In 1868 he converted it into a grocery store. In 1872 he became a partner in the bleaching and finishing works of his brother-in-law Jakob Signer in Herisau. Tanner was from 1857 to 1861 local council and 1863-1868 Municipality captain in Herisau. From 1862 to 1868 he was a member of the Ausserrhoder Grand Council . From 1868 to 1872 he served as chief judge , from 1872 to 1873 as governor and from 1873 to 1874 as provincial cap master . From 1875 to 1879 he sat on the audit council. From 1875 to 1881 he held the office of District Court President . From 1875 to 1878 he was a free-thinking national councilor and from 1885 to 1891 a cantonal councilor. From 1877 to 1880 he presided over the Appenzell-Ausserrhodischen Volksverein. Tanner was particularly committed to a Herisau-St. Gallen, a secondary school in Herisau and the hinterland district hospital. As an exponent of church reforms, he was a member of the Evangelical Synod from 1877 to 1890 .
