Johann Gottfried Bobertag

Johann Gottfried Bobertag (born March 30, 1770 in Crossen in the Neumark , today Krosno Odrzańskie ; † September 29, 1830 in Warmbrunn, today Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój ) was a German Protestant clergyman and from 1829 General Superintendent of the Church Province of Silesia in Breslau .

Life

Bobertag was the son of master baker Paul Martin Bobertag in Crossen. He attended grammar school in Sorau from 1786 to 1789 . From 1789 to 1792 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Halle . Due to the death of his father, he had to return to Crossen and take a position as a private tutor. In 1794 he became a teacher at the Royal Pedagogy in Züllichau . In 1796 he became a field preacher in South Prussia and in 1799 with the Graevenitz regiment in Glogau .

In 1804 he was appointed pastor in Straupiz, Haynau district ; as early as 1807 he moved to Lobendau, also in the Haynau district (today Lubiatów, municipality of Złotoryja , Powiat Złotoryjski , Poland ). In 1822 he was appointed superintendent of the Diocese of Haynau, and in 1829 general superintendent of the province of Silesia and director of the royal Prussian consistory in Breslau .

He died after only a short activity while taking a spa stay in Warmbrunn. His successor was Friedrich Ribbeck in 1832 .

Since 1799 he was married to a daughter of the Syndicus von Grünberg , Ludovici. Of the couple's ten children, Paul Bobertag became a teacher in Berlin, Eutin and Ratzeburg. His nephew Gotthard Oswald Marbach also lived in his household in Lobendau .
