Johann Gottfried Elsner

Johann Gottfried Elsner (born January 14, 1784 in Gottesberg ; † June 5, 1869 in Waldenburg , Province of Silesia ) was a farmer, sheep farmer and author.

Life

Elsner was the son of a furrier. After graduating from the Lyceum in Landeshut , he studied theology , philosophy and philology in Halle (Saale) from 1806 to 1807 . He then became a private tutor in Waldenburg. After marrying an estate owner, he turned to farming.

In 1822 Elsner leased the Münsterberg city property . Through his work he contributed significantly to the spread of merino sheep breeding in Bavaria, Bohemia, Austria and Transylvania. For his services he was awarded the title of Royal Prussian Economic Council.
