Johann Gottfried Seyfert

Johann Gottfried Seyfert (born May 11, 1731 in Augsburg ; † December 12, 1772 ) was a German composer .

Life

The son of the church composer Johann Caspar Seyfert (1697–1767) received his first musical instruction from his father, and a scholarship enabled him to complete his training in Bayreuth , Leipzig , Dresden , Berlin , Venice and Vienna , where he came into contact with others important composers of his time such as Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach . After his return in 1753 he took over the management of the Collegium musicum in his hometown and from 1766 worked as music director at the Evangelical Church of St. Anna . Until his death he played a leading role in the musical life of his hometown.

The composer, who is also known beyond the borders of Augsburg, created a number of chamber music works, piano sonatas , oratorios and around 20 symphonies .
