Johann Gottfried Weiske
Johann Gottfried Weiske (born June 16, 1745 in Doberenz ; † November 12, 1806 in Meißen ) was a German cantor and composer .
Life
Weiske attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1761 . In 1767 he moved to the University of Leipzig to study . Just two years later he became a substitute for the cantor in Meißen , whose successor as cathedral and city cantor he was in 1774.
Weiske was the first in German-speaking countries to prescribe exact tempo indications for his compositions from 1789; Attached to the print was a picture and a detailed description of his "tact knife".
