Life

Johann Gottlob Schneider was born as the son of a linen weaver in the Zittau Mountains . He became interested in music at an early age and acquired the necessary skills on an autodidactic basis . He became a sub-schoolmaster and organist in his home village below the Lausche . In 1787 he went from Alt-Waltersdorf to Alt-Gersdorf as a teacher and organist . There he founded a choir, among other things.

After his first wife died, he married a second time. With Anna Rosina geb. Hänisch, who came from neighboring Jonsdorf , had three sons who inherited the musical talent that his father promoted.

The eldest son Friedrich , who was born in Waltersdorf in 1786, became an organist, first at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, then at the same time as court conductor at the court of the Duchy of Anhalt-Dessau in Dessau .

His second son, Johann Gottlob Schneider , was trained by him after he was four years old to play the piano and organ as well as in violin, viola, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet and trombone. In 1811 he was appointed singing teacher at the Ratsfreischule and organist at the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig. Later he also worked as a composer.

The third son, Johann Gottlieb Schneider, went to Hirschberg in Silesia as an organist. Johann Gottlob Schneider also taught him together with his other two sons.
