Johann Hartmann Misler

Johann Hartmann Misler (born July 12, 1642 in Marburg , † March 22, 1698 in Verden ) was a German Lutheran theologian and poet (1676 poeta laureatus).

Life

Johann Hartmann Misler was the son of the theologian Johann Nikolaus Misler , professor at the Universities of Marburg and Gießen, and father of the theologian Johann Gottfried Misler (1679–1748).

After studying theology at the universities of Gießen and Wittenberg , Misler became rector in Worms in 1665 . In 1684 he went to Stade , where he was first rector and in 1685 pastor to St. Pancratius. 1691 Superintendent of the Duchy of Verden .

Misler composed occasional Latin poems, later mainly German hymns, some of which were included in contemporary hymn books. Philipp von Zesen accepted him into the German-minded cooperative in 1671 (No. 103: Der Deutschgesinnete ).
