Johann Heck (physician)

Johann Heck (* around 1400 in Büderich ; † June 17, 1472 in Cologne ) was a master's degree in liberal arts , doctor of medicine and professor at the Cologne medical faculty .

Life

His family is listed in the first quarter of the 15th century as the owner of the Ginderich estates of the St. Viktorstift in Xanten . He studied from 1414 to 1418 in Heidelberg and from 1422 in Cologne. In 1431 he was listed in the register of Pope Eugen IV as an artist master and doctor of medicine. On May 23, 1431, Pope Eugene IV granted him a vicariate in Trier . On March 30, 1436 he became a member of the Basel Council . From 1454 until his death he was a professor at the medical faculty in Cologne . In addition to teaching at the university, he also practiced as a doctor . He died a wealthy man with an impressive library that contained 225 items and considerably more book titles.

Property and testamentary provisions

The total assets to be bequeathed amounted to over 11,000 florins , which was roughly comparable to the budget of the city of Wesel . This made Johann Heck one of the richest citizens of the Rhineland of his time.

In addition to his relatives, he paid particular attention to church and charitable institutions. For example, he donated two new vicarages with an altar worth 110 florins to the parish church in Büderich. The Anne's altar donated here was then built as the fourth side altar of the parish church to three existing ones. The altar dedicated to St. Anne was on the north side of the tower. The construction of the Büderich church tower was also supported from the 1475 estate.

In addition, he considered the city of Büderich and supported the hospital of St. Ursula in Cologne, the hospital or guest house in Büderich, poor schoolchildren and students as well as a list of other poor people, houses of the Devotio moderna and convents of the Carthusians .
