Johann Heinrich Klemm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Heinrich Klemm (in Polish: Jan Henryk Klemm ; * in the 17th or 18th century; † around 1777 ) was an officer and builder from the Electorate of Saxony who worked in Poland . He is counted among the most important Baroque architects in Poland.

Life

Little is known about Klemm's life. Presumably he came - like other Saxon master builders - during the reign of August the Strong or his son August III. to Poland. He may have worked in Hungary before. He served under the Grand Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki from 1758 to 1768 as a colonel in an infantry regiment (Polish: 4 Regiment Pieszy Buławy Wielkiej Koronnej ). Klemm was one of the favorite architects of the builder Branicki and advised him on architectural and artistic matters. In addition to activities at various Branicki residences, Klemm also worked for other Polish magnates . He lived in Białystok , where he also designed the town hall. He was born with Katarzyna Borodzicówna married.
