Johann Heinrich Schröder (painter)

Johann Heinrich Schröder (born August 28, 1757 in Meiningen , † January 29, 1812 there ) was a German portrait painter .

Life

Schröder was trained as a painter at the art academy in Kassel , the then "Académie de Peinture et de Sculpture de Cassel". Like his teacher Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder. Ä. he mainly created small-format portraits in pastel painting . Schröder worked for various royal houses, including from 1785 as court painter at the Brunswick court - and later at the Baden court. In Berlin it can be proven in the years 1790 and around 1800. On study trips that took him to England and the Netherlands in 1793, he continued his education and incorporated the influences he had gained into his painting. Schröder is considered one of the best pastel painters of the late 18th century.
