Johann Heinrich von Gysenberg († April 5, 1717 in Speyer ) was a canon in the prince-bishops of Speyer and Worms , whose epitaph has been preserved in the Speyer Cathedral .

Life

Johann Heinrich von Gysenberg came from the Rhenish-Westphalian barons of Gysenberg , who belonged to the feudal people of the Cologne prince-archbishop .

From 1677 Johann Heinrich von Gysenberg worked as cathedral capitular , from 1711 until his death also as cathedral dean in Speyer , but was not a priest, but had only received the minor orders , which actually violated the statutes of the cathedral chapter.

The nobleman was buried in the Speyer Cathedral, where his high-quality Baroque epitaph with a resurrection scene has been preserved in the nave. According to this memorial stone was Johann Heinrich von Gysenberg also Domdekan and domkustos in Worms, curator of the Speyer Cathedral, Dean and curator of the Ritterstiftskirche Bruchsal , and provost of the pen St. German in Speyer , which in the Church St. Moritz resided.

His successor as Speyer cathedral dean was Hermann Lothar von Auwach .

family

Johann Heinrich von Gysenberg had 3 brothers who were also canons and therefore remained unmarried. Roser Christopher von Gysenberg officiated as cathedral capitular in Osnabrück , Johann Franz von Gysenberg as the cathedral scholaster there . Adolf Robert Arnold von Gysenberg became canon in Hildesheim in 1675 . He died in 1725 as the last male offspring of the family and bequeathed their goods to his great-nephew (son of his niece) Joseph Clemens August Maria von Westerholt , with the condition that he also used the name Gysenberg. This had already been determined in 1714 by the spiritual brothers von Gysenberg, when their niece Maria Agnes Freiin von Ketteler zu Sythen , the daughter of her sister Maria Elisabeth Franzeline Freiin von und zu Gysenberg, married the noble Ferdinand Otto von Westerholt.

From that time on, the family was called Westerholt-Gysenberg. Joseph Clemens August Maria's grandson Maximilian Friedrich Graf von und zu Westerholt-Gysenberg (1772–1854) married Friederike von Bretzenheim (1771–1816), a natural daughter of Elector Carl Theodor , his sister Maria Anna Wilhelmine von und zu Westerholt-Gysenberg (1773 –1852) was a childhood sweetheart of Beethoven .

coat of arms

The family's coat of arms shows three black birds sitting in a row on a gold background.
