Johann I of Arcis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John I of Arcis (French: Jean d'Arcis ; † July 7th , probably 1191 before Acre ) was a lord of the castle of Arcis-sur-Aube ( Chacenay House ) in Champagne . He was a younger son of Anséric I of Montréal († 1170) and Adelheid von Pleurs.

With his older brother Anséric II , Johann was first documented in 1164 in a document from their father. While the elder inherited his father's ancestral castle in Montréal when his father died , Johann received the castle of Arcis-sur-Aube. In 1189, like his brother, he announced his participation in the third crusade . Probably the two did not move to Outremer with their cousin Erhard I von Chacenay in advance of the French crusaders in the summer of 1190 , but belonged to the retinue of the Duke of Burgundy , who reached the camp near Acre with King Philip II on August 1191 . The necrology of Notre-Dame-de-Montréal records his death on July 7th, without mentioning a year of death. He probably died in 1191 during the siege of Acre , as did his brother and her cousin.

Johann I was married to Helisende († after 1226), a daughter of Count Rainald IV of Joigny . After his death she married Count Milon IV of Bar-sur-Seine . Your children were:

  • Johann II. († ~ 1219/22), Lord of Arcis-sur-Aube.
  • Anséric, Thesaurus of Langres.
  • Guido / Guy († ~ 1241), Lord of Arcis-sur-Aube.
