Johann II. (Mecklenburg)

Johann II of Mecklenburg (* around 1250; † October 12, 1299 ) was Lord of Mecklenburg from 1264 to 1299 .

Johann II was the youngest son of Johann I and Luitgard von Henneberg (1210–1267), daughter of Count Poppo VII von Henneberg . After his brother Heinrich I was taken prisoner on his pilgrimage, he took over in 1275 together with his brother Nikolaus III. the reign for Heinrich's sons. In 1283 he is mentioned as Lord of Gadebusch . He probably got the rule as a Paragium .

He died in 1299 and was buried in the Doberan Minster .

Three children were mentioned in a document:

  • Lütgard, † after August 2, 1353,
  • Johann, † died young and
  • Elisabeth, who still lived as Abbess of Rehna in 1352 .
