Nicholas III (Mecklenburg)
Nicholas III zu Mecklenburg (* after 1230; † June 8, 1289 or 1290 ) was canon of Schwerin from 1246 and Lord of Mecklenburg from 1264 to 1289 .
Life
He was the son of Johann I von Mecklenburg and Luitgard von Henneberg (1210–1267), daughter of Count Poppo VII von Henneberg and brother of the Schwerin canon Hermann.
From July 9, 1246, Nikolaus was canon of Schwerin, where he held the office of scholast from May 15, 1248 to October 21, 1261, and from January 5, 1266 was the owner of the provost's office . Nicholas III was accepted on January 9, 1266 as a canon in the cathedral chapter of Lübeck , since June 28, 1271 he was also provost there. On May 6, 1285 he was still the owner of a minor praisee of the Lübeck cathedral chapter.
On February 22nd, 1269 he was also named as a pastor in the St. Mary's Church in Wismar . On July 17, 1282, Nicholas III. also pastor in Bergedorf and on December 20, 1285 founder of a vicarie in Schwerin. After his brother Heinrich I of Mecklenburg was taken prisoner on his pilgrimage, he and his brother Johann II exercised the guardianship of his wife and children.
Nikolaus III was last mentioned in a living document. on April 2, 1289. His death day is on 8/9. June 1289 or 1290, he was buried in the Doberan Minster . On April 5, 1296, provisions were made about his estate.
