life and work

Nothing is known about the family of origin and the training path of Hebers. At the end of the 17th century and until his death in the mid-1720s, he worked as a geodesist and cartographer in the Lake Constance area and in Upper Swabia. For the Swabian-Austrian tax survey and for district plans, he carried out surveying work from 1699 and created plans for various construction projects, including Vaduz Castle . He also designed brochures and floor plans for Vaduz Castle, Gutenberg Castle , Meierhof in Triesen and Gamanderhof in Schaan .

His most famous work is the first documented map of the Principality of Liechtenstein that he created in 1721. This map was considered lost for a long time and was only rediscovered by Prince Johann II (1840–1929). It has been in Vaduz Castle since then. In 1977 the Heber card was depicted on a Liechtenstein European stamp.

Heber was married to Regina von Kirch from Lindau since 1706. Between 1722 and 1723 he was a member of the Grand Council . He died in Lindau at the age of 57 or 60.
