Johann Jakob Müller (politician, 1812)

Johann Jakob Müller (born August 12, 1812 in Kyburg , † April 30, 1872 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss politician . From 1848 to 1851 he was a member of the National Council, after which he was government councilor of the Canton of Zurich until 1869 .

Life

The son of a glazier initially worked as the secretary of the Kyburg Higher Office, mainly taking care of the notarial business of the Feuerthalen law firm . From 1837 he officiated as district council clerk in Winterthur , from 1843 as governor . He was also a member of the Winterthur City School Board from 1843 to 1851. Müller, who represented Alfred Escher's liberal direction , was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council from 1845 to 1867 .

Müller ran successfully in the first National Council elections in the Zurich-East constituency in 1848 . Three years later he did not stand for re-election, after which the Cantonal Council elected him to the government council. In this position he was responsible for the public works department, and from 1856 he was also a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Northeast Railway . After the Democrats had become the politically dominant force in 1869, Müller resigned as a councilor. He then became the manager and co-owner of a cotton mill in Fischenthal .
