Jacob von Grünthal
Johann Jacob von Grünthal , also modernized Jakob von Grünthal , (* 1570 ; † August 5, 1626 in Voigtstedt ) was a military councilor and general commissioner of the Electoral Saxony , superintendent of the sequestered county of Mansfeld and captain of Sangerhausen .
Life
Jacob came from the Austrian noble family Grünthal , was baptized Protestant and was the son of knight Wolfgang von Grünthal (around 1500–1576), imperial councilor and Upper Austrian vice cathedral and his second wife Ursula Kölnpöck († 1601). Jacob conducted his studies in Tübingen in 1587, in Jena in 1591, in Padua and Bologna in 1594 and finally in Siena in 1595. He fought for Emperor Rudolf II as a volunteer against the Turks in Hungary for eight years. As a Protestant he then became court war councilor and general commissarius of the Saxon electors Christian II and Johannes Georg I. Jacob was also the electoral Saxon envoy to the imperial court in Vienna and other electoral courts, supervisor of the county of Mansfeld and captain of Sangerhausen .
In 1599 he bought Hehenberg Castle from Nemrodt Kölnpöck zu Ottsdorf . Jacob was captured by the Bohemians during the siege of Bautzen in Lusatia in 1620 and released by Elector Johann Georg.
Johann Jacob von Grünthal was the master of Kremsegg , Windtern, Burkersdorf and Volkstatt, and Hehenberg. He married Elisabeth von Pölnitz, the sister of the Electoral Saxon court chancellor Bernhard von Pölnitz zu Schwarzbach, and had three daughters and two sons with her. After his death he was buried on August 18, 1626 in the Jacobikirche in the Electoral Saxon city of Sangerhausen. At that time he was, among other things, the master of Voigtstedt and Volkstedt .
