history

At the beginning of the 9th century Voigstedt is mentioned in a document as Vocstat in a list of the goods of the Hersfeld Monastery built by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz . The former moated castle stood on a small island of the helmets at the northeast corner of the village. A Heinrich von Vokstete was named in 1200, who was probably lord of the castle. In 1208 it was called a castle. There are no remnants of these buildings. At times there were up to six manors in the village, including the official property, the castle property, the back tower, the Wechsunger Hof and Kresses Hof. The place was also the seat of a manorial office to which the villages of Voigtstedt, Nikolausrieth , Katharinenrieth and Schönfeld belonged. The noble Knaut family held a farm here from 1453 to 1554, which was called Knauthof until the 19th century .

During the Second World War , 57 women and men, mainly from Russia , Ukraine and Poland, had to do forced labor .

On January 1st, the municipality of Voigtstedt was merged with the town of Artern / Unstrut and the municipality of Heygendorf to form the new town and rural municipality of Artern. The community Voigtstedt belonged to the administrative community Mittelzentrum Artern .
